Sometimes you just have to push through and work out a way to get the things done that you don’t necessarily feel like or want to do at any given moment.  We all feel it at times – too tired, not in the mood, distracted with something else going on in our lives, changing priorities, feeling unwell and the list goes on.  It’s part of being human.  But these are the moments when you need to dig deep, remind yourself of why you are doing what it is that you are doing and just get it done.  I struggle with this myself on a fairly regularly basis.  Living with an Autistic child presents a variety of challenges moment to moment.

Priorities are a funny thing.  When you have conflicting demands on your time, the first thing to do look at is what is most important.  Ask any successful person and they will tell you family first and/or God (if they are religious), then business interests, then all else.  And it becomes dangerous territory when the excuses can start to creep in.  Being steadfast on what is important and where your priorities lie is fundamental as is your why.

This is why I have a Daily Method of Operation to keep my days balanced between work, family and play time.  When I stick to this I know that I am maintaining my priorities adequately, remaining focussed on what is important and I am on the path to realizing my why and am at cause for that journey.  Once I start to deviate from that path, distractions become more prevalent and I end up de-railing myself.  A Daily Method of Operation is an almost regimental structure of my day hour to hour.  I plan on each day what I am doing and stick to it as best as I can.  It is always challenging, but the rewards for doing it far outweigh the distractions.  Try it out for yourself.  You’ll be amazed at how much you can get done in a day and feel good about the balance it will ensure.
