Once again, my Senior Business Associate recently did a training on how many different types of people you will need to have in your business for you to have a balanced and successful, synergistic team. Now I had never really thought too much about this before – I’m probably just like you in that regard. Every person that comes in to my team – I’m just happy to have them! Right? Well this is true, however sometimes you have to take a step back and see what is actually happening in your group. After all, it’s all about what people are actually doing instead of what they are telling you they are going to do.

Below is the list of the 7 types of network marketers you need to have in your business:

The Types of Network Marketing People You Should Know

The Perfect Recruit.

These people are your ideal and sadly will be less than 1% of your group. They are just like you – they follow the system to the letter, they are on all the training calls, attend all the events, consume the product/service and get a great result. They tick every single box and you need to have these people. Obviously.

The Product User

Now these guys will often present as being the “Perfect Recruit”. They will tell you they will be on all the training calls and attend all the events, but something will always ‘come up’ preventing them. They will tell you that you will make a million together and you’ll be sipping Martinis from their yacht in the Caribbean. But sadly, they are all talk. Yes, they do, however, absolutely love the product/service and the company and for that reason alone, you need to procure and care for these people closely. Just play along with their charade. If you don’t, you will lose them. These guys will account for 60% of your team so make sure you properly support them because they will bring other product users in as well.

The Excuse Making Eddies

These guys are truly not worth your time and important to identify fast as they will drain so much of your time and energy and you will end up frustrated. Sadly this is most of Network Marketers. These people will give you every excuse in the book why they are not building but want your time. They will want to constantly book in calls with you. They may turn up to the odd event but really not be all in. It’s probably because they have nothing else on that day. They will miss their Autoship. “Have” to talk to you about something or other. Will send enormously long and verbose e-mails. Complain about everything and generally have a bad attitude. The important thing is to identify these guys early on and ignore them. They will eventually just disappear and in all honesty – awesome. You don’t want that energy around you.

The MLM Addict

These are the career MLMers. They change companies like they change underwear and first impressions – you are impressed. Also, they have been with this company and that company and they know this training and that training and you think “awesome – they can teach me.” But in all fairness, they can’t. Why do you think they change companies so often?

These people are addicted to the industry, but not loyal to a company. They like the ‘idea’ of MLM more so than the reality. Also, they will tell you things like “well I never really believed in their product anyway” or “I was never a fan of double helix matrix pay plan they had” or the best one “I didn’t really get along with my upline”. These are all absolutely red flags. I’ve literally had the same guy come back to me every year for years. He NEVER finds what he is looking for so now when his name comes up, I just don’t call him anymore. They will NEVER do anything. They are the ‘shiny new object syndrome’ people – off to the next shiny thing they find. And it’s the rush of discovery that they are addicted to.

The Straight In Stacey

These are the guys who don’t need much info and just get started straight away without putting too much thought into it. You need to be very, very careful of these ones are they typically will want to blame you when things don’t work out. But for reasons of qualifying for bonuses, it’s important to get them started and then just let them fall away. As with the “Excuse Making Eddies” – don’t give them much energy. Just join them up, kiss the fish and throw them back.

The Training Addict

Now if you read my blog posts, you will have read about this person. They are kind of similar to the Product User in that they will tell you they will be the one at the top with you but they never will. What they love is the atmosphere. These people LOVE the training – so much so they will mortgage their house to go overseas to attend them. And never make a penny. But they will use the product/service, be on all the calls, interact, participate, ask questions etc etc. But never bring a single person into their organization. These people are also what is called the ‘Social Distributor’.

They just LOVE attending stuff and meeting new people, and shaking hands with the ‘big wigs’ of the company. It just gives them a rush. They are not seriously looking to make any money – they usually have a good income stream coming from someplace else and typically are stay at home Mums who are looking for excitement (apologies to anyone here who may be offended by that comment). But I’ve seen this over and over and over again over many years. You truly believe that one day their ‘nut is going to crack’ but sadly it never does. Again, just love them but be sure not to give them too much of your time until they do actually start producing – which in most cases – they won’t.

The Snake

I left this until last because these guys you really need to watch out for. These are the psychos of the industry. Usually have an axe to grind, are narcissistic, have major psychological issues and you are their prey. They will reel you in and then bite you – badly.

These are the thieves of customers and team members. They are the people that spread gossip. These are the people that strain relationships. Hence, they have absolutely no intention whatsoever of building a business, they simply enjoy toying with you. They feed on desperation and know you want new recruits. The money they spend on the business is just hobby money to them – they get off on doing what they do.

And if you don’t ‘bite’ – they are off to their next unsuspecting victim. I’ve seen so many of these both inside and outside of my business. The ones who dump their horrific life story on you to get sympathy to spend time with them and then start stories with your upline about how terrible you are and things you didn’t say. There are others that are just straight out liars and will tell you they are selling their house to move to the south of France so they need a business to maintain their lifestyle. It’s all lies.

They will spread stories about other team members that are just not true. They get sick entertainment out of doing this as they for some reason see us as vulnerable and stupid. Don’t be suckered in to these people and do what you can to terminate them if you can. Sadly, they will make up about 5% of your team and your only job is to ensure they are isolated.

The fact is you need all of these people in your business. Don’t be stressed about it or worried just vigilant. Always step when your new person steps – don’t be like a boss and check in on them every two seconds. Identify who your perfect recruits are and work closely with them.

Don’t go into “Management Mode” which so many of us have fallen into the trap of doing. When you do this, your business will die I promise you. You absolutely have to keep building at all times. Even the people who you firmly believe are your superstars will quite literally quit tomorrow and report you to their ISP for spam without you even knowing what is going on.

So keep recruiting. Identify as quickly as possible who they are so you know how to categorise them accordingly and know how much time and energy you are going to spend with them. You will fill your organization with mainly people who do absolutely nothing. And that is just fine. If it were easy – everyone would be doing it, right? Your only job as a leader is to develop other leaders by utilizing your system, keeping a level head, communicating effectively, marketing adequately, duplicating solidly and teaching to teach. That’s pretty much all there is to it. Easy, right?
