We all get there don’t we? It’s not just a ‘bad day’ per se. It’s so much deeper than that. It’s those feeling of overwhelm, frustrating, resignation. We’ve all been there when seemingly out of nowhere, we feel like we just cannot take another step, make another call. We’re done. And I was there on Monday. I live in the most locked down part of Australia right now (and even the world – who knows). With no relief from these restrictions, on Monday I felt depressed like a caged rat – a criminal locked in gaol who had committed no crime. Hearing of people queuing up just to grocery shop in our State capital Melbourne – I became angry. Angry that our Government could keep us like this despite very, very little risk to the population. Angry that other State Governments and indeed the Federal Government were giving different directive and why did I live in the State that wasn’t budging. The words “stubborn refusal” were coming to light and making me even more upset. So here’s how I dug myself out, step by step.

  • Stop watching any Government announcements. No TV, social media, newspapers, radio – zero.
  • Go and get some fresh air.
  • Walk the dogs around the property.
  • Make healthy food choices.
  • Work out – I did 30 minutes’ of cardio yesterday composed of treadmill, bike and cross trainer, plus 30 minutes’ of lower body weights and nearly an hour of tennis serving on my tennis court.
  • Drink plenty of fresh, clean water – I drank nearly 2 litres.
  • Get some help. My neck started to respond to how I was feeling so I went and saw my Physio to loosen up the muscles and ligaments.
  • Talk to someone about how you’re feeling.
  • Get to bed early and get at least 7 – 8 hours’ of uninterrupted sleep and I choose to burn lavender and peppermint in a diffuser for the first 4 hours’.
  • Trust the process.

Hope this helps. Take care of yourself first in order to care for others.
