Yes, that’s right folks – we are not normal.  But boy are we striving to make it so!  But then again, what is normal?  Did you know that 95 – 98% of the entire population on the face of planet earth work for someone else in some way?  I would call that a sad statistic, but yet others would say it’s great that so many are gainfully employed – it’s all in your own perception and experience I guess.  So why am I writing this article?  I want for you to really see how powerful entrepreneurs really are in making a huge difference in the world and how anyone can join this not-so-exclusive ‘club’.

Most entrepreneurs I would argue are visionaries.  They have faith.  They see things that are not yet seen.  They see things for how they could potentially be.  They walk by faith and not by sight.  And they take calculated risks in order to get them to where they want to go.  Let’s look at a few of them shall we?  I’ll start with Steve Jobs.  A College drop out – most would have laughed at being a loser for just doing that.  He had a child very young out of wedlock – many would have written him off right there and then.  He started his company with his friend out of a garage.  Not too many venture capitalists were exactly beating down the door of their garage to throw money in their faces.  In fact, Steve called hundreds of people that he could show his Apple computer to.  It only took one person to say yes.  Imagine if he had quit after phone call number 10?  None of us would have iPhones, iPods, iPads, iMacs etc etc.  His vision has literally transformed the very world we live in.  Next I’ll move to Bill Gates.  Similar story to Steve – College drop out etc etc.  Did you know that Bill donates millions – yes, that’s right – millions of dollars to charities in Africa?  There are countries that have had their entire economies transformed, people lifted out of poverty and living longer because of Steve and Melinda Gates.  What about the Kerry Packer.  Without Kerry the sport of Cricket would not be what it is today.  And how about Henry Ford.  If he had not refused to accept his Engineers’ pleas that a V8 engine could not be made, how the hell would any of us be getting around today?  And we all agree – love him or hate him – that the New York skyline would not be what it is today without Donald Trump.

There are several things that most entrepreneurs have in common.  They came from or started with next to nothing.  Now I know that both Kerry Packer and Donald Trump came from wealthy backgrounds, however did you know that Trump has lost his entire fortune not once, but twice?  And he managed to make it all back again.  These people all started with a vision that literally kept them awake at night and fired them with so much passion that they managed to maintain their “whatever it takes” attitude for days, months and years until they achieved what they set out to do.  And then made even bigger and more audacious goals.

So you don’t think you’re an entrepreneur?  Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but you’re wrong.  We all are.  And within us is the power to transform.  We are all God’s children.  We are all creators whether you believe that, understand it or not.  Think back to when you were a child.  I bet you had all kinds of dreams that once life started biting you in the butt, you gave up on.  As Martin Luther King Junior said in his famous speech “I have a dream”.  And that’s all it takes really.  I know that sounds ridiculously simple but it is.

So go back and dream.  Dream big.  And have faith knowing that somehow, in some way, with someone you can get there.  The difference between the rich and famous and the poor is what they think.  Pure and simple.  Whether or not you are going to stay poor for the rest of your life rests solely on your shoulders.  There are so many ways now to access the information, people, places, events at little to no cost that can help you turn those dreams into reality.  So get out there!  Make this world a better place.  That is what you were made for.  That is why you are here.
