It’s a question I hear asked every once in a while and in all honesty, it really is a personal choice.  Having said that, each platform obviously works in very different ways for very different outcomes.  So which one is better for promoting your opportunity and products?  Below I have created some dot points which are questions you can answer yourself to find out which platform will work best for you.

  • Products or business?  It’s pretty simple really – Facebook for products and Linked In for business.  Typically people on Facebook are looking for solutions to their problems while people on Linked In are looking for professional connections and opportunities.  No brainer this one.
  • Marketing budget vs zero ad spend.  If you have a marketing budget and are looking to build your organization, Linked In is definitely the way to go.  If you have zero, build relationships with people on Facebook and use Groups to position yourself as an expert.
  • To spam or not to spam?  Well if you don’t mind messaging people and being upfront that you are looking for business partners – Linked In is definitely the way to go.  Don’t ever do this on Facebook as you can very easily be blocked and banned on Pages and in Groups.
  • Which Campaign Manager brings the best bang for buck – Facebook or Linked In.  For me, it’s Facebook every single time.  It has much greater metrics that you can monitor than Linked In allowing you to keep a very close eye on your spend.
  • Which Groups work better – FB or LI?  I personally prefer Facebook as people are more looking to get their problems solved on the platform.  Typically people in Linked In Groups are looking for potential clients and professional association as opposed to having their problems solved.  Not too many people are going to consult a LI group if they have skin rashes – they will do that on Facebook.
  • Which is the better platform to be more open and transparent about what you do?  Clearly it’s Linked In.  I would never recommend using your Facebook timeline to post directly about business but with Linked In, it’s encouraged and FREE to do so.
  • Which platform is better for free advertising?  Personally for me it’s Facebook.  I use the free job posts feature to promote my business.  Now I know that this is a huge NO NO from Facebook’s point of view but hey!  Rules were meant to be broken and seriously if you have not been kicked off a platform yet, you are not in business!  There are a few stipulations with this in terms of how many free job posts you can post (which usually will depend on how many likes you have on your Business Page) but it’s a seriously good lead generation source.  You are generally only allowed on free job post on Linked In.
  • Page or Group?  Well, that is entirely up to you but will depend on your objective.  If you are looking to advertise via Campaign Manager on Facebook, then you will need a Business Page that you post on daily.  If you are looking to build a group of people with an interest in your niche that you can market to, then a Group is definitely the way to go.  Just personal choice to me and depends on how much time you have to manage a Group.  I know many who have made 6 figure incomes purely from a Group.

So that’s pretty much it.  Hope you find this helpful.  In a lot of respects, it comes down to personal choice and what your objective is.  If you are mainly looking for customers for your product, Facebook is the way to go.  If you are looking for business builders, then it’s Linked In.  But make sure you assess the dot points and apply to the answers to your own unique situation.  I use both but for very different reason.  Feel free to share with your teams and keep an eye on your e-mail for an upcoming MasterClass on this very topic.
